Screening Programme
The aim of the breast screening programme is to reduce deaths from breast cancer by detecting cancer at an early stage, when treatment is more successful.
Who is Eligible: Breast screening is offered to anyone registered as female between the ages of 50 and 71, and is offered every 3 years. Females over the age of 71 can self-refer every 3 years.
What is Screening: The breast screening test is a mammogram, done at a clinic or mobile breast screening unit. It is offered to those who do not have symptoms of breast cancer. If you have symptoms, you should see your GP and be referred on the appropriate pathway.
Learn about the Breast Cancer Screening Programme and the Breast Cancer Now Charity, including a guide to breast awareness and screening, and pocket guides in 11 different languages.
It is vitally important that you attend your appointment if you receive an invitation for breast screening.
The earlier breast cancer is detected, the more successful the treatment!
